obama-has-a-posse.jpgThis afternoon I’m taking the kids down to LFP Elementary (where Zoey will start Kindergarten after one more year of preschool) to caucus. To go to the caucus? Is it a noun or a verb? Honestly, until Nicole challenged Ray to caucus it up a couple weeks ago, I had completely forgotten about the very concept, and had no idea that we had those in Washington.

Apparently the Democratic Party is only going to count the caucus results in this primary, and not the ballots. I think this is ludicrous, since the biggest problem progressives face is voter apathy. People who can hardly be bothered to sign up for an absentee ballot are extremely unlikely to (go to a?) caucus on a Saturday afternoon, no matter how much they desire change. Rona can’t even go, since she teaches for 7 or 8 hours straight on Saturdays.

No matter which Democrat wins the primaries, we stand a real chance of achieving positive change in the nation and the world. Even a box of rocks would be better than what we have now, and it would seem we actually have good choices this time around. As much as it will be a pain in my patriotic pants to haul both kids down to rockus the caucus, I’m going to do it. We’ll be hanging in the Obama huddle, or however that works.
