Last Sunday we all went to the Furry 5k (photos to follow). On the way back home on I-5, a jerk in a gold Acura with Oregon plates passed us on the right, cutting in really close. Of course, as the car cut us off, it simultaneously ran over a license-plate-sized metal object (I’m guessing it was, um, a license plate), kicking it up onto the front of our van. Since the jerk was in the process of recklessly cutting us off, I had no time at all to react, so the license plate or whatever smashed into the front of our van.

The speeding jerk zoomed off through traffic, and was too far away before we thought to get the license plate number off the back of the car. Jerk.

When we got home we surveyed the damage. Whatever hit us broke the Honda logo, dented the hood, destroyed the "Clear Protect" plastic wrap coating that the Honda dealership snookered us into buying when we got the van, and loosened the plastic bumper cover.

We called our insurance company and took the van into one of their authorized shops for an estimate. Our deductible is only $250, which is good considering that the total cost to fix the van is over $1,500.

[Oh yeah---I almost forgot to mention that we won't get our van back until Wednesday or so, which makes it about a week without a car. Niiiiice.]
