Keegan is now one week old. I can’t believe it! He is a master eater and sleeper and pooper. He doesn’t like his diapers to be changed. He doesn’t like poop either (makes for a challenging diaper change). We are still getting used to the fact that baby boys pee in arcs across the room or on our hand or on the bed or when we think it was contained. He even managed to get it to go down his backside. We are getting faster, though.

This week has gone by very quickly. I have been in a haze much of the time, but much better than I remember with Zoey. Zo didn’t sleep as well. At least Keegan will sleep in large chunks, but for a couple of hours in the middle of the night, he’ll want to nurse about every hour.

I have been grateful for our midwives and their post-partum support. I guess this doesn’t happen when you give birth in hospitals, but they’ve been calling us twice a day to check in on both Keegan and me, until Keegan’s poop was processing the breastmilk (rather than the meconium poop), which was yesterday. They came to our house for his two day checkup last week (in which he did very well). He had a heel poke for blood samples to send off for blood tests. Everything else checked out great! Our next appointment for me and for him is on Tuesday. I will actually venture outside of the house for the first time since his birth (and his first time ever).

Zoey has been doing really well with everything. I think she especially enjoys all the visitors we have been getting. She likes to show off her ballerina moves. She has also been great about sleeping through all of Keegan’s crying at night. I am so glad! It is hard enough to figure out what Keegan wants at 2:30am when you’re sleep deprived.

We have had some wonderful food bearing visitors lately! Auntie Angela came by with some mungbean pancakes (Yum!!!) and Auntie Jen and Uncle Brian came by today with a big fiesta spread of Mexican food from Jalisco’s (Evan’s favorite). Jen held Keegan while I took a quick nap. Ahhhhh. Zoey had a blast with Uncle Brian! They had so much fun that the minute they were gone (probably still in their car about to drive off) Zoey said, “I miss them already” and had her super sad face on.
