Our trusty Powerbook, purchased in February of 2005, isn’t so trusty, as it turns out. The logicboard (mainboard/motherboard) has been replaced not once, not twice, but three times now. Yes, we are on our fourth logicboard now, or we will be as soon as we get it back from the Seattle Mac Store. This latest bad logicboard exhibited its badness as soon as I turned the laptop on, which was right after I signed the paperwork and they handed me the computer.

I asked the tech guy at the Mac Store (not to be confused with the official Apple Store) what he thought about getting the computer replaced, since it’s smelling a lot more like lemons than apples these days. He said his store can’t do a replacement, but that since I have the Applecare warranty, I should contact Apple with my query. I called them today, and they basically said that they need to be the ones doing the repairs in order for a replacement to come about. So, if (at this rate when) the computer breaks again with logicboard #4 in place, I’m mailing the computer to Apple and bugging them until they replace the machine with a brand-new equal or better Powerbook, or with a MacBook Pro. Either way, wish us luck!
