Yesterday we went to the Puget Sound Blood Center on First Hill to donate blood. I went in first while Rona and Zoey played in the waiting room. At one point Zoey walked into the donation center to find me, saying, “Da da da da.” The toddler was collected by her mommy, and the blood did flow. After I was done offering up my pint o’ red goodness and had had some cookies and water in the recovery canteen, I took over Kid Duty and Rona went in to the Shiny Room of Bloodletting. She hadn’t given blood in well over 10 years, and did a great job. I just ended up with a tired feeling and a headache, but Rona didn’t feel too good until this morning, when she was back to normal. The phlebotomists at the downtown center are the best in the PSBC system, I’ve found. The ones in the traveling donation RVs/buses are next best, and the ones at the Northgate branch are the nicest bunch of arm-bruising torturers you’d ever wish to meet.
So anyway, yesterday between us we helped six people who needed blood or blood byproducts, and I’m very proud of my Sweetie for going down there with me and submitting herself to the hated needle. She’s off the hook for future donations unless she wants to go, and I guess I’ll keep plugging away at gallon #3.
