This morning I took the Powerbook in to the Mac Store in the U-District so they can determine if it needs new RAM or a new logic board. The estimated turn-around time is supposed to be 3-5 business days. I hope it’s three. This predicament would be highly annoying and work-stopping, were it not for the timely arrival on Tuesday (was that really just yesterday?) of the shiny new iMac G5. Shiny… New… Pretty… Fast… Mmm…
Anyway, once the Powerbook’s back with us it’ll become Rona’s new machine, and after we suck all the crunchy data out of her Toshiba laptop, I’ll install Fedora Core 4 or some other Linux on it and see if I can make it fast again. If not, well, we can add it to the stack in the garage…
As part of the Big Family Computer Upgrade and Windows Abandonment of 2005, we got a second iPod. The first one is a 20-gig model (4th generation click-wheel, but before yesterday’s merging of the iPod and iPod Photo lines). The new(er) one is a 60-gig iPod Photo (from a couple days before yesterday’s merging of the iPod and iPod Photo lines). Let me tell you, it takes a lot to fill up a 60-gig iPod. This one’s got 2377 songs and 475 photos, and it still has 44.3 GB free. I guess I’ll have to import all of our classical music once I find all the miscellaneous rock that’s lying around the house in stacks out of Zoey’s reach.
I mowed the grass for the second time today. It turns out the handle on the push mower just holds itself on by tension, with a couple pegs through some holes for good measure. This time I mowed both north-south and east-west and tried to only overlap about a quarter of the blade each time, hopefully avoiding the mohawk effect I created last time by overlapping halfway (thus driving the wheels in the same tracks in both directions) and only mowing one way. I think it looks better this time, anyway.
Zoey has been walking a lot, and dancing up a storm (she digs Reggae and African/World Beat). She has two new teeth coming in, one of her bottom lateral incisors, and a bottom molar on whichever side didn’t already have one (her right, I think). Rona caught about 10 minutes of video of Zoey walking around the house, climbing on her horsie, and generally causing trouble today, so I’m going to see if the new, faster Mac with 2GB of RAM can do a better job of importing from the video camera than the Powerbook. Watch this space for results, soon. Or else for the lack thereof, ongoing–I guess we’ll see.
