A couple nights ago, I was asked to come support a blood stem cell transfusion procedure with reiki. It was amazing. My client, a woman from New York, flew out with her husband to Seattle just to have the procedure done at the UW Medical Center. My client doesn’t know where or who the cells came from, just that it is a 28 year old woman.

I met with my client back on Monday afternoon for a session at her temporary home here in Seattle. She has to live here for 100 days after this sort of procedure. We had a good session and she had asked me back for Wednesday as well. Except, that by that time, she had several more rounds of chemo and was not feeling up to it. Then, Thursday came. T Day. They said the blood would come any time, and they would do the procedure when they received it. So, I was "on call," as it were. It finally happened at 12:30am Friday morning. It took about 2 1/2 hours. It was incredible. Those beautiful blood cells in the bag dripping into the tubes running into her body giving her a second chance at life. The first fifteen minutes were crucial. If her body was going to not accept the blood, now was the time. But, my client did beautifully. She even fell asleep for a little while.

It truly was an amazing experience. I was most impressed that she wanted the reiki there. It really makes perfect sense. Infuse the blood with supportive energy to help the body do what it needs to do. But, nobody every thinks to do that. Especially surrounded by all those machines beeping away and the sterileness of the hospital room. Most people just don’t think about it.

I was there from 12:30am until about 3am. And yes, I was tired, as I usually get up at about 4:45am to run and then head off to teach. But, with all the sleep deprivation I have had in the past 14 months, I was doing just fine.

On a different note, we are getting ready for my studio trumpet recital. Most of my students will be performing their solo and ensemble for the solo/ensemble competition next week. This is their practice performance. Sunday, 2pm at the Lynnwood Kennelly Keys, if you are interested. For the first time, I have a couple first graders as students. The youngest I usually teach is 3rd grade. But, these two kids are great! One will be performing. The other got a little shy.

And on the final note, Evan posted some more pictures in Zoey’s gallery! Please take a look-see!
