A couple days ago we three trekked down to the Renton/Kent border to visit Ikea. As always we spent more than we intended, but we scored some cool stuff. The coolest of the cool stuff is a new desk, Part One of our mission to move the Zster into her own room.
The plan is to rearrange the living room, squeezing in a desk which will house a shiny new 15" Powerbook G4 sometime after the first of the year. The desk is the cool "Jerker" model (that’s "Yerker" if you happen to be reading this out loud) with a CPU holder for my desktop PC and an extra shelf for the top. We think this desk is very cool, and we’re definitely not alone, as shown by a quick Google search on "ikea jerker". If you want to avoid the crazy Jerker fanatics, you can just check out the Ikea.com page on the Jerker desk if you’re so inclined.
Zoey’s sleeping pattern is still changing from night to night, which is the sole reason behind moving my office to the living room and giving her her own room. Two nights ago she slept really well, whereas last night she awoke several times, yelling at one point for about two hours before falling asleep again. Maybe she’s teething, maybe she’s making a political statement, or maybe she’s just extremely stubborn and still wants us to pay for kicking her out of the bed. We don’t know, but she gets her own room out of the deal.
She is making great strides toward learning to walk (pun intended) and is getting better at both "cruising" and standing without support for a second or less. Her favorite word is still "da-da-da-da-da" (which seems to have infinitely variable meaning, sometimes including "Daddy") and she likes to buzz her lips like she was playing a trumpet. She learned that trick immediately the first time I demonstrated it, and will buzz in response to a buzz. Clever girl!
Rona and I are both working a lot while making a little more time to watch movies (most recently Shrek 2 via Netflix), and we very much enjoyed our baby-free outing last Friday to University Village for window shopping, Mexican food, and Ben & Jerry’s. Zoey had a great time with Babysitter Shandra, and we’re all looking forward to continuing this fine business relationship. ![]()
