Thanks to all of you wishing us good gas mileage! It worked! It didn’t even take a whole tank to go down to Portland and back! Woohoo! Well, the trip down was very nice. We left at 7:15am and headed south to Starbucks, and then southbound to Krispy Kremes! (We had to pick up a little something for Auntie Bonnie, ya know.) Then more South to Auntie Bonnie’s to drop off Murphee.
Then we really headed South, on I-5. Traffic was as smooth as Zoey’s bottom, especially in the carpool lane.
Zoey fell asleep and it was a beautiful, peaceful morning heading into a wonderfully sunny day. We had the tunes going and the coffee (and Chai) in the plentiful cupholders. I think we only stopped once at a rest stop for some diaper changing and nursing. After that Zoey was wide awake and playing in her carseat most of the rest of the way to Grandma Evelyn and Grandpa Earl’s house. We made it there by around 11:45am.
We hung out at the ranch for some lunch and quality Zoey time. We saw Uncle Eric and cousins Alana and Matthew and Aunt Bev and much playing was had by all. Quick rehearsal (and coffee fill up) in the afternoon with my favorite accompanist, Cindy Pick. It was very fun and Cindy taught us a new song and “dance” for Zoey. You hold her on your lap, facing you, and sing “This is the way the gentlemen/ladies/farmers ride…” while bouncing her like she’s on a horse. Zoey LOVES it! We do it all the time now. Then we went to a fun pizza place for dinner and met up with Chantelle, who had been at a medical seminar all day.
Sunday started out at Grandma and Grandpa’s church for some Zoey showing off. I believe she was probably in just about everyone’s arms by the end.
[Editor's note: We were also at church so that Rona could play some Haydn and Hovhaness with Cindy. Thus the rehearsal the previous day.] After lunch and naptime, Evan and I made some yummy veggie spaghetti for dinner in between setting up their new computer!!! Evelyn’s birthday, E&E’s 40th (!) anniversary, and Father’s Day celebrations commenced, and cake was had by all.
Monday, we stayed until Evan could get the computer up to snuff. We took off around 1:30pm. It was a nice drive with not much traffic, but, in the future, the morning is a much better time for Zoey to be in the car for a long time. I do believe it was supposed to be her playtime rather than sitting in a car seat for several hours. Oh well. We finally made it to pick up Murph at about 4:30 and made it home about 5pm. Enough time for a quick dinner and getting Zoey to bed.
It was a very good time!
