We have had no power for the past 28 hours, but it just got back on and we are soooo happy! It got down to about 53 degrees in here. We were all wrapped up in blankets and had logs in the fireplace burning strong.
To catch you all up… no baby yet. Contractions started up nicely yesterday again (of course, we thought a power outage would be the perfect day to give birth), but then they subsided by the evening. Evan and I played several rounds of Boggle Deluxe by candlelight and take out chinese food then it was time for bed. Evan began reading Lemony Snicket, Book the First. by flashlight until we fell asleep. Murphee got to sleep in the bed with us on account of it was so cold. Additional body heat is always good.
Other events that happened over the days of snow, freezing rain and no power… Murphee broke her toenail and we did some home emergency repair on her foot. She is slow and kinda gimpy for a while. I hope it breaks off soon, otherwise, we need to go to the vet to get it all trimmed up. Our photinia that hangs a bit over the fence in the front yard has splayed and broken a bit due to the weight of the ice and snow. We didn’t like it much anyway, but now it is blocking a parking space. So, we will need to grab a chainsaw and hack it all down. Bamboo will look nice there in its place, won’t it? We are just grateful it didn’t pull down the phone wire down or the fence along with it. And last, but not least, our bottled water bottles froze and cracked. So, we don’t have any more filtered water until they deliver some more to us. They will be doing a special delivery for us hopefully sometime today.
Let’s see, we have also been doing lunches with Evan’s parents who have been in town this past week. Yesterday, we went to Copper Sky to keep warm as well (their hotel lost power, too). It was pretty good! And then, we all shared the greatest dessert ever — Mexican Chocolate Cake with carmalized bananas and real vanilla ice cream on top. Oh Man! So, I went off my good eating diet for an afternoon. They have decided to head home this morning. So, maybe Brian will be correct? As they were heading out this morning, they dropped off hot coffee and hot water for tea, our power turned back on!!! YAY!
Statistically speaking:
Mommy: Contractions are here and there this morning. They were consistent, but far apart yesterday. My cold and cough are going away. I forgot to mention that Dr. Bonnie felt Zoey’s little head sutures at the exam. Good sign. I am still pretty tired. The contractions kinda wear me out a bit. The Nesting Urge has started up again as this place is a mess with no power for over a day.
Daddy: Doing fine. Tending to my every need. Excited about the prospect of making coffee anytime he wants to again. Excited about being able to check his email again.
Murphee: Like I said earlier, broke a nail and a bit slow on the draw. But, was barking at squirrels this morning, so she must be feeling better.
