This year we forwent heading up to Lopez Island for a progressive (house-to-house) Thanksgiving meal, or driving down to Portland for a veggie lasagna feast. Instead we mashed up well over 15 pounds of potatoes (13 giant baking taters in a bag for something like $1.50 at Sam’s Club) with roasted garlic and parmesan cheese, and Rona stirred up a quick batch of cashew brittle (more caramelly than brittley, but a big hit just the same) and headed south for a Turkeyday feast at Angela and Eric’s house. Brian and his crew brought the Extended Version of The Two Towers (as found on my Amazon wish list…) and the movie was already underway.
We didn’t have to wait long for the feasting to begin. Angela and Eric did up a big traditional spread, augmented with various items brought by the rest of us, and enhanced with low-carb, high protein & veggie items (like Korean pancakes) made just for my beloved, baby-growing wife. We feasted and watched the rest of the movie. I still need to see the extended version uninterruptedly for the full effect, but it was amazing to see what parts I did on the Mashlan’s extremely huge T.V.
I can’t possibly properly express how proud I am of Rona for totally changing the way she eats in order to protect her and Zoey from sugar-processing struggles. Surrounded by off-limit foods and over-indulging thanks-givers, she stuck to her plan. A small treat of pumpkin pie filling was well-earned and thoroughly enjoyed, as well as balanced by yet more protein. (Good job Sweetie! I love you!!!)
We followed up the feasting with a walk through the ritzy end of Angela’s street. As of tonight, an after-holiday-meal walk is a new tradition in our little family. So I declare, for I am Daddy!
Post-walking, Brian, Barrett, Jim, and I started playing Lord of the Fries De-Lux from Cheapass Games, while everybody else busted out Trivial Pursuit. I bought LotF back in the Games & Gizmos days, and never managed to play it in the intervening years. It was quite fun, and I want to definitely play it some more to get the strategy down. After three hands of LotF Rona and I called it a night, and headed back to the Northlands, she to take vitamins and sleep, and me to play some games on zone.msn.com and to write this.
